PLANO (WBAP/KLIF) – The brother of the man shot and killed by former Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger is calling on law enforcement to improve training techniques more than a year after his brother’s death.
Guyger is serving a 10 year prison sentence for shooting Jean when she said she mistook his apartment for her own.
Brandt Jean was given an Ethical Courage award by the Instititute for Law Enforcement Administration, on Tuesday. Jean was named the 2019 recipient after forgiving and hugging Guyger at her Murder trial.
During the ceremony crowded with Police Officers, the teenager called for better training.
“We have cases of kids being actually scared of Police Officers,” Jean said. “We don’t want that.”
His mother, Allison Jean, was frustrated with a lack of action from Dallas Police since the trial.
“We cannot continue to exercise all the grace and mercy and nothing else comes to us,” she said.
Following Guyger’s conviction Dallas Police Chief Renee Hall said she would look into allegations against the department during the trial. But attorneys for the Jean family claim nothing has been done by the department since.
