DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas Highway Patrol troopers are out in force this holiday weekend to both help and watch drivers.
Lonnie Haschel with the Department of Public Safety says troopers will mainly be doing a couple of things.
“We want to make sure people are watching their speed, they are not distracted, they certainly aren’t under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Haschel said. “Troopers will also be out helping with folks that get lost or are stranded along the side of the road.”
Haschel also warns drivers to get enough rest. An exhausted driver can be just as dangerous as a drunk driver.
“We got to get this, we got to get that, we got to get to the grocery store, we got to get whatever we are taking to Grandma’s house and it can be a very stressful time,” Haschel warns. “What may take a backseat is, sometimes, the rest level.”
DPS is also asking drivers to be aware of weather forecasts. It is supposed to be a rainy Thanksgiving weekend across most of North Texas.
