Dallas-Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – Just four months away from the Texas primary, democratic activists don’t feel their U.S. Senate candidates can beat incumbent Senator John Cornyn.

Many are hoping that Beto O’Rourke or Julian Castro will jump into the race, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Among the top 5 of 8 candidates are former U.S. Rep. Chris Bell of Houston; State Senator Royce West of Dallas; and former Air Force helicopter pilot MJ Hegar, Houston council member Amanda Edwards and activist Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez of Austin.

The News quotes progressive activist Julie Ross who says they “should take a page from Beto’s playbook and engage the entire state.”

Tzintzún Ramirez graduated from UT Austin, and co-founded the Workers Defense Project and successfully took on some of the most powerful corporations in the state to ensure that hard-working families have good, safe jobs.

O’Rourke recently ended his presidential campaign … and narrowly losing to Senator Ted Cruz in the midterms.

Castro is still campaigning for president, but did not qualify for the last debate.

Amanda K. Edwards serves as the Houston City Council Member in At-Large Position 4. She is also an attorney and native Houstonian with a passion for building communities through public service.

On the Republican side, relative newcomers to politics, Dallas financial adviser Mark Yancey (pictured bottom right) and Dwayne Stovall, who finished third in the 2014 primary are challenging Cornyn.

Yancey calls himself a ‘common sense conservative on his campaign website. Texans deserve a leader who represents Texas values: strength, courage, independence, putting our families first, and applying “common sense

” to solve a host of issues for Texas families.

Senator Cornyn exudes just the opposite. Mr.Cornyn is the key architect of weakness, partisanship, and gridlock that has created ideological polarization in Washington.

Dwayne Stovall (texasforstovall.com)

On  his campaign website Stovall (pictured left) says, I am compelled to do this because the Republic, created with the ratification of the Constitution of the United States, no longer exists.

The government we were gifted, founded on the principles of federalism, republicanism, and limited government has long since declined into an unlimited National Government based in socialism. I’m a proud Texan that refuses to remain silent while tyranny grows and liberty is destroyed.
