PLANO – WBAP/KLIF – Minnie’s Food Pantry is readying to dish up healthy Thanksgiving style meals to more than 2200 families Saturday morning at it’s headquarters, 661 18th Street in Plano.
The event will mark the offering of more than 10 million meals to date given at no charge by Minnie’s. Founder Dr. Cheryl Jackson notes a growing number of hungry families; often made critical by the loss of a job, illness, or other unexpected issue that families can face in life. She says the growing number of children going to school hungry is becoming so frightening that Minnie’s is now teaching the issue of hunger in schools. Counsellors will contact Minnie’s for help for specific families if the kids ask for help, beyond the normal everyday help offered at most food pantries.
Jackson says the offer of a free meal with a smile and welcoming hosts – 250 volunteers are taking part in this year’s events – is good to anyone who shows up at the pantry. “I’ve never known hunger to be conditional on a zip code”, says Jackson.
