Two Dallas County Deputies Arrested, Accused of Stealing from Tornado-Destroyed Home Depot

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- Two Dallas County Sheriff’s Deputies have been arrested for looting from the Home Depot that was destroyed by a tornado last month.

Home Depot’s Corporate Office notified the department that one of its deputies had stolen from the store on Forest Lane and later exchanged items for appliances at another location.

Raul Reyna with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office said 25-year-old Deputy Joseph Bobadilla had been working off duty guarding the store from looters and would items during his shift. Reyna said 41-year-old Sergeant Rebecca Evans helped him load the items out of the store. “People are looking toward  officers and law enforcement to secure their valuables and keep them from being looted and when you have an officer who goes ahead and steals, we are obviously going to take that very seriously,” said Reyna.

Bobadilla and Evans were arrested and charged with Theft of Property $750-$2500 Enhanced (Public Servant) in connection with the thefts. The charge is a State Jail Felony.

“The Dallas Sheriff’s Office does not condone or support employees that break the law.  Our core values are integrity, professionalism and accountability and as a result, we will follow the proper procedures and guidelines in place to uphold the law and ensure the deputy is held responsible for his actions,” said Sheriff Marian Brown.

The District Attorney’s office says those who commit crimes in disaster zones will face harsher penalties.
