DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A Dallas Judge ruled in civil court Thursday that the City of Fort Worth can move forward with hirng a new Police Chief while the former Chief fights to get his job back.
Joel Fitzgerald testified in court that he was fired for investigating alleged corruption at City Hall, but city leaders said he was terminated because they lost confidence in him. A word Mayor Bestsy Price was asked to clarify while testifying.
“A lack in the ability to due the job,” Price said.
Fitzgerald told the Judge his firing has prevented him from getting another job.
“Your Honor, I’ve received about 105 rejection letters,” Fitzgerald said.
Lawyers for the former Chief asked the Judge to stop the city from hirng a new Chief while his wrongful terminatuon lawsuit plays out in court. That request was denied Thursday in a hearing that last four days. The lawsuit is still expected to go to trial.
