FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- Fort Worth citizens were able to meet the top five candidates competing for the city’s police monitor position at a public forum Wednesday night. The police monitor is a position recommended by the city’s Race and Culture Task Force and will oversee policies within the Fort Worth Police Department. Fort Worth Interim Police Chief Ed Kraus says this is a good thing for the city and the department. “We are trying to make sure the department becomes more transparent and the community feels like they can trust us. That trust adds legitimacy to the police department and makes it easier for us to do our job and keep communities safe,” said Kraus.
Assistant City Manager Fernando Costa said they found the top candidates after a nation-wide search. He said all of them have good experience. “These are five outstanding candidates…they are successful where they are and happy with where they are and not looking for other jobs and we persuaded them to consider coming to Fort Worth to look at this job,” Acosta said. “We would be lucky to have any one of them in Fort Worth,” he said.
