Former Bartender Accused in Viral Deep Ellum Beating Indicted

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A former bartender accused in the viral beating of a woman in Deep Ellum earlier this year has been indicted on four counts.

31-year-old Austin Shuffield has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, obstruction or retaliation and two misdemeanor charges, assault and unlawful carrying of a weapon stemming from the March 21st assault of 24-year-old L’Daijohnique Lee.

The brutal beating, which was caught on camera and widely circulated on social media, was reportedly over a parking space and Lee said she suffered a concussion.

She also told police Shuffield hurled racial slurs at her during the altercation in which investigators said Shuffield also pulled out a gun.

In a written statement, Shuffield’s attorneys said that “while the standard for the grand jury to indict a case is quite low, we are nonetheless disappointed with the outcome.”

They insist their client did not use any racial slurs against Lee.
