Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Former Dallas mayor pro tem Dwaine Caraway has taken up new digs in the Dallas County jail as he continues to serve out a federal bribery sentence — and many are wondering “Why?”

Not even the U.S. Attorney’s office was aware of the move last week, according to the Dallas Morning News.

In April, Caraway was sentenced to 56-months behind bars for taking bribes in the now defunct Dallas County Schools scandal.

The ‘News’ speculates the move could be related to Caraway’s upcoming testimony against a low-income housing developer, as being closer to home makes it easier for federal prosecutors to meet with him.

Caraway pleaded guilty to taking $450,000 dollars in bribes and kickback from the man connected to the former Dallas County Schools. He was sentenced to 56 months in prison and ordered to pay $500,000 in restitution.
