Dallas County Homeowners with Tornado Damage to Receive Tax Relief

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas County homeowners affected by last month’s string of tornadoes will be getting some needed tax relief.

A vote by the Dallas County Commissioners Court Tuesday allows properties damaged in the storm that ripped through the Dallas area to be reappraised. The re-appraisals will likely temporarily reduce taxes for many homeowners as the value of the home goes down, until repairs are made.

“All you’re doing today is deciding whether you want to give people an opportunity to be taxed on what their home is worth for the last 73 days of this year,” Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins clarified to the Commissioners Court.

The measure passed unanimously.
