DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- Construction begins on Uber’s new hub in Deep Ellum Dallas.
The office building will be the second largest outside of its world headquarters in San Francisco.
Governor Greg Abbott says Uber is more than just a ride sharing company and Texas is the right place for the innovation Uber brings. “Texas is proud to open our newest pioneer…working together we will continue to cultivate Dallas and Texas as the cradle of innovation for the entire country,” Abbott said. The hub is expected to bring more than 3,000 jobs to the DFW Metroplex.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said this is an exciting day for the city. “The competitive economic package that helped us attract Uber to this site is tied to job creation and it will create tens of millions of dollars of investment in our city,” said Johnson.
Uber is also getting almost $36 million in economic incentives for the new office.
Johnson said there’s no better place for Uber to expand it’s operations than Dallas.
“Dallas is a thriving tech hub and our city is the economic engine of our country’s fourth largest metro area, one that has more than 244,000 tech workers,” said Johnson.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said this is a great investment. He said Dallas was the first city in Texas where Uber launched its app in 2012.
“The decision to be in Dallas was driven because of the partnership that we’ve had for many years in the state of Texas but also because of the depth of the Texas labor market and the kinds of talent that we want to recruit we are looking for people here who want to work hard who want to innovate and we believe Dallas is the place to do that,” he said.
The 22-story office building located on Pacific Avenue will officially open in late 2022.
