Groundbreaking Congressman John Conyers Jr. Dies at the Age of 90

Democratic Rep. John Conyers of Michigan, who is the longest-serving member of the House of Representatives, settled a wrongful dismissal complaint in 2015 after allegedly sexually harassing a staffer, according to an explosive report published Monday.

Former Congressman John Conyers Jr dies Saturday at the age of 90.

A champion of civil rights and civil liberties, Conyers fought for 15 years to honor slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. via acknowledgement through a national holiday, now Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

He served as the ranking Democratic member on the House Committee on the Judiciary as well as the role of Chairman of that committee.

Conyers resigned in 2017 amidst allegations of harassment lodged by women staffers.  He co founded the Congressional Black Caucus in 1969, and established a reputation as one of the most liberal members of Congress.
