ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF)- Arlington Police arrested two teens in connection to the shooting death of a high school student on October 17th.
Police say two Bowie High School dropouts, Alexander Onyeador and Keyon Flynn are the 18-year-old teenagers responsible for killing 17-year-old student athlete Anthony Strather.
Sergeant Michael Chitty said after witness testimony and receiving video they made the arrests.
“This is still an ongoing case, I’m sure there still are interviews to be conducted there may possibly be other charges forthcoming to other people but at this time we are confident in the two arrests and the two suspects in custody,” said Chitty.
Chitty said the shooting happened near Bowie High School after the suspects started a fight. “According to the arrest affidavit it definitely seems that the suspects in this case were antagonizing some type of fight with a group of people that were already at the residence where the shooting occurred but the reason behind it, we don’t know at this point.. the suspects chose not to speak,” he said.
Chitty spoke about Strather and explained he was a innocent victim who was helping a friend by standing in the way to break up a fight. “He did step in once it appeared that multiple people were trying to fight one person at the same time and he was trying to break that fight up and that’s when the guns shots started,” he said. Strather, a defensive end at Bowie High School, was part of the Coach 5-0 program, a coaching mentoring program the police department does in collaboration with the school district. “This does speak to his character and it’s a very sad situation,” said Strather.
He said the suspects are gang members but it’s unknown if the shooting was gang related.
