DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- Dallas ISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa thanks the community for their support, teachers for their dedication and students for their patience following Sunday night’s tornadoes that destroyed three schools and left many without power.
Students at Thomas Jefferson High School has been relocated to Thomas Edison High School for the remainder of the school year. Walnut Hill Elementary Students have been displaced to Tom Field Elementary and Cary Middle Schools students were also relocated.
“When I saw it all come together it really makes you proud to see how everyone can pull together…this crisis focused all of our efforts to make this happen in short order,” Hinojosa said.
Hinojosa thanked Transportation staff for working around the clock to adjust bus routes accordingly and fix any hiccups along the way.
“To parents…We want to help you get back to your normal routine. Please know that bus transportation is available for Thomas Jefferson Students to and from Thomas Edison,” he said.
Hinojosa said classes continued at Cigarroa, Pershing and Burnett Elementary Schools, who are relocated to Alfred Field House for the remaining of the week.
Repairs continue to be made at Cigarroa and Burnett and Hinojosa said he’s confident students and staff will return to their campus Monday.
He said he’s been in close contact with Oncor and expects power to be restored at other schools by the end of the day.
“It’s encouraging to see how despite the situation, spirit and hopes among many remain positive. I’d like to thank everyone for helping with the adjustments in a very short period of time, to allow our teams to get back to teaching and learning in a safe and welcoming environment,” said Hinojosa.
