DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The defense team for former Dallas Police Officer, and convicted murderer, Amber Guyger has filed the preliminary paperwork in case they want to appeal.
Guyger Defense Attorney Toby Shook said this was possible in an interview shortly after Guyger was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
“You can file preliminary paperwork if you wish and then you can withdraw that,” Shook said the day after Guyger’s sentencing earlier this month. “A lot of defendants like that done first just in case.”
This paperwork could be withdrawn if they ultimately decide not to appeal. A decision on that could come soon.
Guyger was convicted of murder and sentenced to 10 years in prison for the shooting death of Botham Jean. Guyger said she went into the wrong apartment by mistake and shot the unarmed man she said she thought was an intruder.
