Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – Saying “accountability and sound judgement have been lost,” members of the North Texas GOP are calling on House Speaker Dennis Bonnen to resign.
The move stems from a secretly recorded tape released this week in which Bonnen promises a conservative activist special access to the House floor if his organization targeted some Republicans in the 2020 primaries.
Agreeing with the position that Bonnen should go is former Congressman Allen West, (pictured right) who is seeking the chairmanship of the Texas Republican Party.
West told our news department that Bonnen has “lost his credibility honor integrity and character.”
The Texas Rangers have been asked to investigate whether that offer from Bonnen constituted an illegal quid pro quo.
Bonnen was elected to the position unanimously in January.
