DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Faith leaders in Dallas are calling on the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate the Dallas Police Department in the wake of testimony heard during the Murder trial for former Dallas Officer Amber Guyger.

Guyger told Police she shot and killed Botham Jean after mistaking his apartment for her own. The Jean family is standing behind the call for a Federal investigation. The former Dallas Police officer was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Jean’s murder.

Co-founder of Mothers against Police Brutality, John Fullinwider, asked Friday for a full audit of the Dallas Police Department.

“We want the DOJ to interview families of people who lost their children in problematic circumstances at the hand of Dallas Police,” said Fullinwider. “It should be the same as when the DOJ investigating the Police Department in Ferguson, in Baltimore, in Chicago, and other cities where that have a track record of unaccountable policing.”

During Guyger’s trial it was revealed that Officers turned off an in car recorder when Guyger was put in a patrol car. Her former Police partner was also accused of Tampering with Evidence after testifying that he deleted text messages with Guyger after the shooting.
