Amber Guyger Turned Over to Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Huntsville to Begin Prison Sentence

HUNTSVILLE (WBAP/KLIF)- Former Dallas Officer Amber Guyger was released from the Dallas County Jail and turned over to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Huntsville to begin her prison sentence.

Jeremy Desel with TDCJ says before any unit assignment is made, she must go through an intake assessment which includes a number of interviews and tests to check physical health, mental health and educational background. When asked if Guyger will receive any special treatment he said he can’t speak about any individual case but said a certain level of protective custody can be requested. “If someone is former law enforcement that is something that is asked during tests..I can tell you that there’s a level of custody called protective safe keeping that is available and is used during some cases if it’s requested and deemed necessary,” he said.

Guyger faces 10 years for the shooting death of Botham Jean last year.
