Amber Guyger faces 10 years in Prison for the Shooting Death of Botham Jean

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) –  A Dallas County jury found former Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger guilty of Murder Tuesday morning, less than 24 hours after getting the case Monday.

A Dallas County Jury sentenced Guyger to 10 years in prison for the shooting death of Botham Jean.

The jury, which has been sequestered for nearly a week and a half, is deliberating punishment for Amber Guyger.

Defense Attorney Toby Shook told the jury Guyger isn’t a threat to the public and is sorry for what she did. The prosecution focused on the life Botham Jean lived and things he wanted in his future.

The former Police Officer faces 5 to 99 years in prison. ​

The defense called Amber Guyger’s mother and sister to the stand Wednesday. Several Police Officers also testified for the defense.

Guyger’s sister spoke about sexual abuse Amber suffered as a young girl.

“It was a man our mother was dating,” Guyger’s sister said. “He touched her inappropriately on several occasions.

She said Guyger was quiet and reserved about the alleged abuse, but also spoke about her sister’s kind hearted nature.

A former drug addict also testified, claiming Guyger saved her life during a drug bust several years ago.

“She said you can either continue on the road that you’re on or this can be your ticket out,” Lawanda Clark said.

The court broke for lunch just before 12:30 p.m.

The prosecution called family and friends of Botham Jean to the stand Wednesday morning to testify about his character.

Jean’s college friend Alexis Stossel testified about when she found out he was killed.

“I called Botham seven times,” said Stossel in tears. “And he never answered.

Jean’s father, Bertrum Jean, took the stand to speak about how he and his family continue to struggle with Jean’s death.

“How could it be possible,” Jean asked. I’ll never see him again.”
