HOUSTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – Funeral services will be held this week for a veteran Harris County Sheriff’s Department deputy who was killed during a traffic stop in northwest Harris County on Friday.
42-year-old Sandeep Dhaliwal will be eulogized Wednesday at the Berry Center and the service is open to the public. A Sikh religious ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a law enforcement ceremony to follow at 11:30 a.m.
Dhaliwal was the first Sikh deputy on the force and is remembered as a compassionate father, community member and law enforcement officer.
The suspect, 47-year-old Robert Solis of Houston, is charged with capital murder in Dhaliwal’s death. Investigators said he allegedly shot Dhaliwal from behind.
Dhaliwal, a 10-year veteran of the department, leaves behind a wife and three children. When news spread of his death, law enforcement from across Texas and beyond expressed support on social media.
