WASHINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – President Donald Trump has named hostage negotiator Robert O’Brien as his new national security adviser.
Trump’s announcement comes a week after he forced his former national security adviser John Bolton to resign, citing policy disagreements.
According to the U.S Department of State website, in his current role, O’Brien works for Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and leads the U.S. Government’s diplomatic efforts on overseas hostage-related matters.
He will be the Trump administration’s fourth national security adviser.
O’Brian will step into the position amid escalating tensions with Iran in the aftermath of the attacks on major Saudi Arabian oil facilities over the weekend. The U.S. has blamed Iran for the attack.
Iran denies any involvement.
I am pleased to announce that I will name Robert C. O’Brien, currently serving as the very successful Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs at the State Department, as our new National Security Advisor. I have worked long & hard with Robert. He will do a great job!
