Governor Abbott Issues Texas Safety Action Report in Mass Shooting Aftermath

AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – Governor Greg Abbott has issued a Texas Safety Action Report in the aftermath of mass shootings in El Paso and Odessa.

The report is separate and on top of executive orders issued in the aftermath of both shootings.

Governor Abbott is calling on strengthening Domestic Violence High Risk Teams, expanding Law Enforcement Rapid Response and educating those in the health care industry about what should be shared with police among several other things.

On guns, Abbott is calling on the Texas Legislature to consider laws that crack down on people trying to obtain weapons illegally, require courts to inform criminals they may no longer posses a gun and even make it easy for a private seller to voluntarily use a background check when selling a gun.

A combined 29 people were killed in both El Paso and Odessa in August.
