(WBAP/KLIF) – Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is reportedly standing up against the National Rifle Association saying background checks should be expanded in the wake of the recent mass shootings in Texas.
In an interview with the Dallas Morning News, Patrick says the loophole allowing stranger to stranger sales needs to be closed.
Patrick’s comments to the newspaper come after two mass shootings in August claimed the lives of a combined 29 people in El Paso and Odessa.
The Odessa gunman failed a background check in 2014 but was able to purchase a gun through a private sale.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued eight executive orders this week aimed at strengthening reports of suspicious activity.
