FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) — The Fort Worth City Council unanimously agreed Tuesday to remove Michael Steele from the city’s Human Relations Commission after he posted a series of inappropriate messages on Facebook. WFAA reported one post included a link to an article blaming immigrants for the decline of the Texas Republican Party. It included a caption apparently written by Steele that read, “Buy ammo”.
Last month Mayor Betsy Price called on Steele to resign after screenshots surfaced containing allegedly racist and transphobic comments which had been posted online. The commission passed a resolution July 15 calling on the full City Council to remove Steele.
There are nine members on the Human Relations Commission which was created to promote diversity.
Steele couldn’t be reached for comment before the Council vote Tuesday.
