Monday night, a group gathered at Mitchell Memorial Park in downtown McKinney to pay tribute to the victims.
The moment of silence came a few hours after the country learned that the death toll in the El Paso mass shooting had risen to 22 people with dozens more still battling injuries stemming from the attack at a local Walmart last Saturday.
The suspected gunman, who police say targeted the Walmart because “he was hungry”, is charged with capital murder and could face federal hate crime charges.
He allegedly posted a racist manifesto on the online forum 8chan that stated Texas was experiencing a “Hispanic invasion” before the attack.
Meanwhile, police in Dayton, Ohio are learning more about the shooter’s background after he killed nine people, including his sister, and injured dozens more outside a local bar.
He was killed by police after the attack at the scene of the tragedy.
Authorities said the shooting does not appear to be racially or politically motivated at this time.
Although, investigators said the gunman’s social media posts showed extreme left ideologies showing support for Antifa and anti-police rhetoric.
