FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- A large crowd gathers outside Fort Worth City Hall for a community-wide vigil/prayer to honor those killed in recent mass shootings. Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price led the prayer, she reminded the crowd to hug a loved one, smile at a stranger and make someones day. “This isn’t about red or blue this is not about politics tonight this is about coming together in unity to support each other from El Paso, to Dayton to Gilroy,” she said.
Price said unfortunately active shooter threats can happen at any time and in any city and said it’s important to be prepared “We did an active shooter training exercise with police, fire, Medstar, Fort Worth ISD and local hospitals because unfortunately in today’s world you have to be prepared,” Price said.
When it comes to race relations in the city, Price said it’s something they are working to keep improving. “We are in the middle of tackling it,” said Price. “We had an 18 month race and culture task force, our new budget is focus on equity..the other issues are coming along,” she said.
Over the weekend, at least 31 people were killed in two mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton Ohio. The weekend before, a shooting at a music festival in Gilroy California killed three.
