Dallas Police to Crack Down on Use of E-Scooters Amid Community Concern

Deputy Chief Thomas Castro

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas Police Department is cracking down on the use of E-scooters.

Earlier this month dash cam video caught a man changing five lanes of traffic on 35-E near Downtown Dallas riding an E-Scooter. Now, Police say recent concerns are prompting stricter enforcement of the city’s scooter ordinance in Downtown and Deep Ellum.

“Some of these business owners down here and some of the patrons find these scooters unsafe,” Deputy Chief Thomas Castro said.

Castro said fines for violating the scooter ordinance can be as high as $200. He reminded riders that the scooters can’t go on sidewalks or on roads with speed limits higher than 35 mph.
