AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas is closing the gap between children and seniors by adding an additional alert for endangered adults.
State Representative Greg Bonnen says this began when he spoke with the mother of a 19-year-old who was sexually assaulted and murdered.
“As my representative, would you see if you can, at all possible, change the law so that another family doesn’t have to go through this,” Bonnen said he was asked by Cayley Mandadi’s mother a year ago.
Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McGraw says this bridges the gap between Amber Alerts for missing and endangered children and Silver Alerts for missing and endangered seniors.
“The Texas Joint Crime Information Center, which serves as the Texas Fusion Center, will now be responsible for all alerts, including CLEAR,” McGraw said.
The CLEAR alerts will join the existing Amber, Silver and Blue alerts that are issued by law enforcement.
The new system goes into effect in September.
