Tarrant County Health Officials Warn of Rabid Bat Found at Fort Worth Water Gardens

FORT WORTH  (WBAP/KLIF News) – Tarrant County health officials are warning residents about a rabid bat found dead in the water at the Fort Worth Water Gardens July 15th.

Rabies, which is typically spread through the scratch or bite of an infected animal can be fatal in humans. If a human contracts the disease, symptoms include fever, headache, muscle fatigue, nausea and tiredness.

Authorities warn against touching wild animals and advise people to never touch a bat, dead or alive, with their bare hands.

Anyone who may have come into contact with the bat is asked to call Fort Worth’s Animal Control Department at 817-392-1234.
