Dallas Police Cracking Down on Teen Curfew, Targeting Deep Ellum

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas Police Department is warning minors to avoid hanging out in Deep Ellum this summer.

With the busy summer months, Deep Ellum businesses are seeing an increase in the number of teenagers hanging out in the entertainment district, which Police say can lead to both crime and overcrowding. Beginning this weekend, DPD will more strictly enforce the teen curfew.

“We have to give two warnings to those individuals,” said Deputy Chief, Thomas Castro. “A third time that we encounter the same individual we can take enforcement action by issuing a ticket.”

The curfew on weekends for anyone under 17 is midnight.

Castro is pleading with legal guardians to help out.

“I encourage these parents to know where these kids are at,” Castro said.

Police said Wednesday that anywhere between 20 and 30 Officers could be working Deep Ellum on a given weekend, and that keeping the area safe is a  priority.
