DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – ‘Mothers Against Drunk Driving’ is reaffirming its call for stricter drunk driving penalties following the death of a former Dallas City Councilwoman.
Carolyn Davis was killed Monday when, according to Police, the car she was driving was hit head-on by a suspected drunk driver who has five previous DWI convictions.
MADD North Texas Executive Director, Ron Sylvan, said Wednesday that in many cases the court system doesn’t treat drunk driving like the violent crimes he said they truly are.
“There are both Judges and prosecutors that probably treat this crime much more seriously than others,” Sylvan said. There is quite a bit of latitude in terms of locking into a specific sentence.”
Jonathan Moore is charged with Intoxication Manslaughter and Intoxication Assault in Davis’s death.
Davis’ daughter who Police say was in the vehicle with her, remains hospitalized.
