Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – Former Fort Worth police chief Joel Fitzgerald is demanding a public hearing about his firing nearly two months ago.
Fitzgerald is suing the city, claiming he was improperly terminated because according to the city’s charter, only the city manager can fire him, and for that reason, he was entitled to a public hearing for the termination is finalizes. The attorney also contends that the assistant city manager signed off on the firing.
According to the Fort Worth Star Telegram, an attorney for the city responded to the claim saying the termination is final.
Fitzgerald was let go after a series of events, including a confrontation at a police awards event in Washington DC and his highly publicized interest in leaving the department for the same job in Baltimore.
