Lawyers For Accused Kidnapper Want Competency Exam

Michael Webb (Tarrant County Jail)

Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – The man accused of kidnapping an eight-year-old from Fort Worth more than a month ago may not be mentally competent enough to stand trial.

Attorneys for Michael Webb filed a motion to have him moved from jail so he can be given a mental exam within the next 30 days.

The Fort Worth Star Telegram reports the actual disorder he will be tested for and any previous diagnosis was not made public.

Webb pleaded not guilty to a federal kidnapping indictment, while also facing charges of aggravated kidnapping and sexual assault of a child.

The exam would delay the trial.
