Dallas Police Group says DPD Rushed Farmers Branch Officer Investigation to Avoid “Social Unrest”

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas Police Association is speaking out about the Dallas Police Department’s investigation into a Farmers Branch Officer indicted this week on a Murder charge.

Officer Mike Dunn is accused of shooting a suspected car thief to death June 12 in Dallas. DPA President Mike Mata said Thursday it’s the fastest a case has gone to a grand jury that he can remember.

“It’s a political machine that lead this,” Mata said. “I know for a fact they were attempting to prevent any type of social unrest and protest. I’ve got news for this department-it’s a citizen’s right to protest.”

Mata said the case was presented to a Dallas County Grand jury just 8 days after Officer Mike Dunn shot and killed a suspected car thief. The incident was caught on video.

“Due process was not served in this case,” said Mata. “And it will put a black cloud over this investigation way down the way.”

The Farmers Branch Police Department is waiting to receive the case file from DPD while Officer Dunn is on administrative leave.
