Capital Murder Trial of Wesley Mathews Begins Today

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – Nearly two years after the body of a 3-year Richardson girl was found in a culvert, the capital murder trial of her adoptive father begins today.

Wesley Mathews first reported daughter Sherin Mathews missing on October 7 2017, about 3 weeks before her body was found. He changed his story about about her disappearance several times before his arrest.

Child advocate Shanna Poteet (pictured right) believes Mathews is guilty of murder and has spoken out on Sherin’s behalf since her death

“CPS failed her and didn’t protect her and of course she was murdered at the hands of those who were supposed to be taking care of her.”

If convicted Mathews faces an automatic sentence of life without parole.

Sherin’s adoptive mother Sini is on the witness list for the trial.

A child endangerment charge against here was dropped earlier this year.

As a result of the case, both parents lost parental rights to their biological daughter.
