Gov. Abbott: “Securing the Border is the Federal Government’s Job, But Texas is Stepping Up”

AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas is dedicating almost a billion dollars to help secure the border.

Despite the funding, Texas Governor Greg Abbott continues to stress that the responsibility of securing the border shouldn’t fall on his state. Abbott posted a video to twitter Monday, outlining how money will be spent to secure the border. He called for more to be done by Congress.

“Securing the border is the Federal Government’s job, but Texas is stepping up to help out,” Governor Abbott said.

Abbott said Texas is funding the deployment of the National Guard & State Troopers to the border, as well as adding boats & planes to detect cartels and deter human trafficking. But the Governor said More needs to be done.

“We will not solve the border crisis until Congress steps up and passes immigration reform and fully funds border security,” Governor Abbott said.
