GRAPEVINE (WBAP/KLIF)- The Grapevine Police Department honors fallen officer Darren Medlin who was struck and killed by a drunk driver 15 years ago.
To mark this year’s anniversary, the department gave Medlin’s family a new police badge, with his badge number.
“He’s still a very important part of this organization along with his family,” said Grapevine Police Chief Mike Hamlin. “Being able to give his family the badge that he would’ve gotten last year if he were here, I think it’s important to continue the story of Darren Medlin,” he said.
The department also received a memorial chair to reserve a spot for him during roll call. “This will help fill that void that’s left in a roll call room…and our goal with the chair is that we will always remember him and for new officers to know the sacrifice he made and that his legacy will live on,” said Tommy Capell President of Saving a Heroes Place. Officer Medlin is the only Grapevine Police Officer killed in the line of duty.
