SHERMAN (WBAP/KLIF) – A new trial has been granted to the former Richardson Mayor and her developer husband convicted on federal corruption and bribery charges.
According to prosecutors, Laura Maczka, now Laura Jordan, took money from developer Mark Jordan in exchange for votes. The two are now married and were each sentenced for their crimes earlier this year. But, Judge Amos Mazzant has granted another trial. In a 22-page opinion written by the Judge, he explained that a court security officer gave advice to a concerned juror.
“The federal Judge instructs the bailiffs, the courts, everybody not to talk to the jury once they begin deliberations,” said legal expert Jerry Treece. “Everybody knows that.”
According to Mazzant’s opinion, the officer told a concerned juror not to worry about the sentences the Jordan’s could face.
The new trail is set for July 8.
