Plano Mayor Denies Wrongdoing Amid Accusations of Campaign Fraud

PLANO (WBAP/KLIF) – A complaint of campaign fraud against Plano Mayor Harry LaRosiliere has been filed with the Collin County District Attorney’s office.
Plano resident Matt Dixon claims LaRosiliere used a mailing list from his summer internship program to illegally recruit interns as political volunteers for particular candidates.

“The use of the corporate mailing list violated Texas’ prohibition against corporation contributions to political campaigns,” Dixon told WBAP/KLIF Wednesday. “The evidence clearly shows the Mayor used a proprietary corporate student mailing list to illegally recruit interns as political volunteers for Ann
Bacchus. These actions are prohibited by Texas law and constitute a 3rd degree felony.”

The Collin County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday it is aware of the complaint. An investigation has not been opened into the complaint. It’s unclear if authorities will investigate the claims further.

Mayor LaRosiliere denies participating in anything illegal. The City of Plano released the following statement to WBAP/KLIF:

“No crime was committed by the City or the Plano Improvement Corporation. The Mayor’s Summer internship is not funded by taxpayer dollars. It is supported completely by private donations. Campaign volunteer opportunities are not part of the City program. The program provides students summer internships with corporations. Although a complaint was filed, there is no investigation moving forward at this time.”
