FORT WORTH, Texas (WBAP/KLIF News) –  A North Texas man has been convicted in the 2016 murder of an Arlington mother who was selling jewelry to raise money to buy Christmas presents for her family.

Mario Hernan Lopez Gamez was convicted Monday of capital murder and received an automatic life sentence.

Prosecutors didn’t seek the death penalty April Vancleave’s murder.

Arlington police said in December 2016, Vancleave was selling her jewelry on the “5Miles” app and had agreed to meet the buyers at a Target on South Cooper St.

The buyers never showed up and Vancleave and her husband went back to their apartment.

Investigators said Lopez Gamez and Alexander Diaz  followed the couple back to their apartment.

When the husband drove off, police said the duo robbed, shot and killed Vancleave in the parking lot.

Diaz was arrested in mid-2017 and awaits trial on a capital murder charge.
