Tonya Couch, Mother of “Affluenza” Teen, Back in Jail for Failed Drug Test

TARRANT COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF)- The mother of a teenager who used his wealth as an excuse for a fatal drunk driving crash in 2013 is back in jail.

Tonya Couch was booked into Tarrant County Jail for failing a drug test required as a condition for her bond. Couch faces money laundering and hindering apprehensive charges when she ran away to Mexico with her son to avoid going to jail.

Her son Ethan Couch was released from jail last year. He gained national attention for a deadly drunk driving crash in 2013 that killed four people. Couch claimed he suffered from “Affluenza”, meaning he couldn’t tell right from wrong because of his wealthy upbringing.
