Insurance Industry Experts Say Action Plans Are Key Amid Widespread Flooding

DALLAS  (WBAP/KLIF News) – Heavy rains drenched the Metroplex late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, leaving many North Texas with damage to their cars.

At Dallas Love Field, dozens of cars that were in the airport’s A/B parking garage experienced the most damage Wednesday morning. Some were completely submerged in water reportedly due to a drainage issue.

Insurance industry experts say having a plan of action is necessary especially during the storm season.

State Farm’s Chris Pilcic said those who experience flood damage to their cars need to contact their insurance provider first.

“Let them know all the details… what damage you see that’s obvious as you approach your vehicle…tell them where your car was parked,” he said.

Flood damage to your vehicle is typically covered in most comprehensive auto policies.

Pilcic said despite that fact, drivers should still check the extent of their  coverage with their insurance companies.

“But you want to do is start that dialogue with your insurance company and they will give you guidance on how to proceed forward,” said Pilcic.

Having your car damaged due to flooding can disrupt your life and your wallet. Pilcic said while it may seem natural to try and start your car to see if the engine has been damaged, it’s actually the wrong move.

Pilcic said that’s a common mistake that could cause additional electrical problems.
