Explosive Groundbreaking for Mesquite Fire Station

MESQUITE (WBAP/KLIF) – City leaders in Mesquite celebrated what was an explosive groundbreaking for a new fire station Friday afternoon.

The start of construction at Fire Station 4 was marked by a detonator plunger setting off charges on the construction grounds.
“The ground is so hard with the black clay around North Texas we decided to come in and have an explosive start to this new fire station that we have going,” Mesquite Mayor, Stan Pickett said.
The new Fire Station 4 sits on Rodeo Center Boulevard next door to the old station. It’s expected to be three times the size of the current station and be safer for firefighters.

“There a higher rate of cancer among firefighters,” said Mayor Pickett. “And the new fire station allows us to separate the firefighters from the apparatus.

The Mayor said the increased safety is a major advantage for Mesquite firefighters.
