ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF)- The City of Arlington is working to ease congestion and improve roads in Southeast Arlington.
The $4.5 million project will expand Collins St. between Mayfield Rd. and I-20.
City engineer Chris Funches said it will add additional lanes, and turn lanes at both Arbrook Boulevard and IH-20.
“Currently everything North of Mayfield is three lanes…by adding additional lanes will alleviate the bottle neck problem and adding turn lanes there people won’t have to wait in traffic to make a right turn,” Funches said.
Additional improvements include replacing existing concrete panels as needed, adjusting water and sanitary sewer facilities, replacing traffic signals, street lights, pavement markings, street signs, sidewalks, fiber conduit, and median landscaping and irrigation improvements.
It’s expected to be complete early next year.
The city is having a public meeting on the project April 18th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library, (re)Brary Rooms A & B, 100 South Center Street.
