DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings says four main events stick with him as he reflects on his two terms in office.
The first moment for Rawlings was the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy Assassination in November of 2013.
“Everybody was very nervous because we could come out as the ‘City of Hate’ again,” Rawlings said.
The following year came the Ebola scare and after that the July 7th, 2016 police ambush.
“A black man killing white officers and to say is that going to lead us in a bad direction or a good direction,” Rawlings said.
Most recently, Rawlings was affected by the killing of Botham Jean by a Dallas police officer.
“A white officer kills a black man in his own house,” Rawlings said.
Rawlings – who is term-limited – leaves office in June.
“I’ve always believed that you are not created as a leader in those moments, it’s how you live day in and day out and those moments just shine a light on you,” Rawlings said.
