HALTOM CITY(WBAP/KLIF)- A new elementary school is coming to Birdville ISD, expected Fall 2021.
Mark Thomas with Birdville ISD says they’re combining two smaller schools into one. He said Richland Elementary and Major Cheney Elementary at South Birdville are home to some of the oldest buildings in the district, over 60 years old.
“Combining them into one larger campus gives us the opportunity to be more efficient with the school,” Thomas said. He said both schools also had no room to expand the campus so they decided to design a school in the middle.
“Both schools will continue to operate until we get this new school up and running, hopefully by Fall 2021,” Thomas said.
The district is working on the design, name and mascot for the school.
“Overall we’ve had great support from the community with Overwhelming support of the bond package voters voted on back in November,” Thomas said.
It will be located off Dreeben Drive, in between Haltom City and Richland Hills.
