Texas Trooper Shot in Frisco Traffic Stop

UPDATE: 3/30/2019 10:18 am – After holding police at bay for nearly 15 hours, a suspect identified as Bryan M. Cahill, 42, of Frisco is in custody after a long standoff at a Frisco apartment complex ended Saturday morning.  Cahill had barricaded himself inside of a unit at Frisco’s LA Valencia Apartments all night.  He is allegedly wanted for the shooting of a state trooper Friday afternoon. The trooper he allegedly shot is also hospitalized, reportedly in stable condition.

According to police, “negotiators worked throughout the incident to convince the suspect to give up. At multiple times during the standoff, the suspect fired multiple rounds at officers as they attempted to effect an arrest.”  He was taken into custody at approximately 5:05 a.m. and taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. Once released from the hospital, he will be taken to the Collin County Jail and be charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.

According to police, there were multiple agencies involved in this incident including Frisco Police, McKinney Police, Richardson Police, Plano Police, Little Elm Police, the FBI and others. Crime scene technicians will be working throughout the day at the apartment complex. Residents of the complex are asked to be patient as the investigation continues. Texas Rangers are investigating and no additional information is currently available.

UPDATE 10:20 pm – Frisco Police report a barricaded person in their search for the gunman in this shooting. “Surgery went well”, though no further details are available about the shot Texas State Trooper.

UPDATE 7:49 pm – DPS’s Lonnie Haschel reports the shot trooper was in stable condition when admitted to a local hospital for treatment of gunshot wound(s).  The search continues for the suspect, and residents of the apartment complex where the trooper is believed to have been shot, La Valencia Apartments on Lebanon Road, are asked to remain inside as the search continues.  Likewise, the public is asked to stay away from the area.  Lebanon Road remains closed from Starwood to the Dallas North Tollway as the search for the gunman continues.  No suspect description is offered by authorities.

 

FRISCO (WBAP/KLIF) – A Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper was shot in Frisco during a traffic stop. No condition has been released but the trooper is being treated at a local hospital.

It happened at an apartment complex near Dallas North Tollway and Lebanon road.

Police are looking for a suspect who did get away.

Frisco police say people in the area need to either stay in their homes for now and if they are not home they need to not return.
