DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — The Vice President of the Border Control Union says there are multiple emergencies at the Texas-Mexico border.
Speaking with the WBAP Morning News, Chris Cabrera said there are people who evade capture every day on the border, and that the ones who come to checkpoints all have similar stories about seeking asylum.
President Trump alluded to the fact that those people may have been coached on what to say.
“Obviously there are some people who need asylum we should help, ” Cabrera told the WBAP Morning News. “But every single person [using the same story] is diluting the system, and the ones who need it aren’t getting the help because the other ones are getting in the system.”
When asked about manpower, Cabrera said it’s a problem, even saying they have less help than they did two years ago when President Trump took office.
He said it’s because stations all along the border are stretched thin.
“Now it’s spread so far that nobody can come help us because they’re dealing with their own mess over there,” Cabrera said. “Anyone who is able to come in from another agency has to be dispersed along the border control instead of concentrating on one spot.”
Regards to President Trump’s goal of building a border wall, Cabrera said it is the correct solution in certain situations.
“You have people who are trying to avoid detection, which the wall will help with that,” Cabrera said. “It will funnel people into the areas where it’s safer for us, safer for them, and safer for the communities to play that game in an open field instead of a neighborhood.”
