DENTON (WBAP/KLIF)- Denton County Public Health (DCPH) reports the first pediatric flu related death for this flu season.
Jennifer Rainey with DCPH said young children, pregnant women and adults over 65 have a higher risk. “The thing that makes this most difficult is that this is a child…and a mother and father are grieving over the loss and that breaks our heart here at DCPH,” Rainey said.
DCPH recommends everyone to get vaccinated, take antiviral medications if prescribed and take everyday preventative methods like covering your mouth or nose and washing your hands.
“Losing a child in our community to influenza is incredibly difficult, and this family remains in our thoughts,” said DCPH Director Matt Richardson.
Richardson said they continue to see flu activity within Denton County and flu is certainly still a risk and reminds people to take necessary precautions, simple things like covering when you cough and sneeze and stay home if you are sick to best protect yourself and others.
