Dallas Activists Demand More Charges Against Deep Ellum Bartender

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas activists voiced frustration Monday with recent charges brought against a white man caught on video attacking a black woman in Deep Ellum.

The video shows Austin Shuffield repeatedly punching the woman Thursday. He later pulled a gun and was charged with Aggravated Assault and other misdemeanors, and bonded out of jail Friday. Dallas activists told a city Public Safety Committee that they want Shuffield charged with a hate crime.

“You let him go,” said one speaker to Dallas City Council members. “He walks free. We are talking about a public safety committee. My public safety is disturbed.”

Activists said if they don’t see justice in this case, they will continue to protest and boycott Deep Ellum.
